During rainy season, my company keeps the roofing contractor busy

I love my job, but the building that we are currently in is falling apart.

  • The building is an old warehouse that was converted to an office space, and the company has occupied it for over 30 years now.

So, it should be no surprise when I tell you that the roof has been leaking for over the past 3 years now. Every Spring when the rainy season begins, we anticipate finding leaks throughout the office. And yes, we have our commercial roofing contractor on speed dial because more often than not, they will make a trip to our office after a heavy rainfall. The last major leak occurred over one of our copying machines, and I can only assume there was some kind of insurance claim made because it was damaged. Unfortunately, due to the way the building was constructed, a roof replacement is out of the question. Furthermore, a roof replacement wouldn’t make sense because the building is old and falling apart. If there were plans to fix and remodel the entire building, then a roof replacement would make more sense. So, when we do get the leaks after heavy rains, we contact our roofing contractor, and they patch the leaks as they discover them. During the rainy season, the roofing contractor is at the office at least once per week. And at times, twice in one week if the rain showers are really heavy. It’s rainy season now, so I expect to see the roofing contractors on and off for the next 5 to 6 months. Ultimately, the plan is to move to a much better office space, but that plan has yet to come to fruition.
