I wanted a portable kitchen for the carnival.

Every year, my husband and I go to the local carnivals.

  • I am always talking about how much better my cheesesteaks and fried vegetables are than those they have at the carnivals.

My husband tells me that if I want to prove it, we should rent a portable kitchen and do the carnival route. We were retired, and there were almost one hundred carnivals with a thirty-mile radius of our home. If we went to one a week, we could bring in a sizeable chunk of money if I was right about how good my food was. After giving it a lot of thought, I knew I wanted to give it a try. The first thing we had to do was look for a portable kitchen for the carnival. I couldn’t believe how much it was going to cost to rent a portable kitchen for four months. I was sure the cost was more than what I could make in that time. I asked if I could rent it by the week, and he was okay with that as long as no one else needed the portable kitchen in that time frame. My husband and I figured we would need to make at least $1000 a week if we were going to rent the portable kitchen. When I figured out that one cheesesteak was getting $12.00 now, and the cost of the food was about one third of the cost, we tried it. I made $1000 the first day, and had to rethink my inventory. This was going to be a time-consuming endeavor, but we wouldn’t be bored, and we were enjoying working in the portable kitchen.
