I spent the night at a sustainable farm without air conditioning

One thing about me is that I value comfort.

And comfort means that I have a cozy bed, a warm shower, climate control (heating and cooling) as well as Wi-Fi service.

As long as those basic needs are met, I can pretty much stay anywhere I go. So, you can only imagine when my husband told me that he booked a weekend at a sustainable farm that had no air conditioning. At first, I wanted to tell him that we needed to reconsider because I couldn’t imagine living without air conditioning for more than a day and he planned a 3-day trip. Luckily, this farm was located in the mountains, so the weather was much cooler than I expected. Plus, the room we stayed in had fans that made it that much more comfortable. In fact, it got quite cool at night, so I didn’t have any issues sleeping with no air conditioning. That was my first time staying in a place like that, but my husband has done it a few times in his life. He is really into sustainable living and part of that lifestyle is reducing his carbon footprint by conserving as many resources as possible. And unfortunately, central air conditioners and heaters contribute to polluting our air. At home, we do use air conditioning, but we do use it conservatively. We have a programmable thermostat installed so that we can better manage the way we use our air conditioning and heating. And on nicer days, instead of turning on the air conditioner, we open the windows to allow cool fresh air into our home. We can’t solve the world’s problems, but we do our part where we can.
