I’m sure glad that’s over.
Had I really any sort of actual conception of what this sort of Winter weather would be like, I might have said thanks but no thanks to this job.
My life has always been lived far south of the Mason-Dixon line. I grew up way down south and never knew anything but mild Winter temperatures that essentially allowed the heat pump a four month rest. But then again, those heat pumps needed it given the tremendous amount of air conditioning that comes with living down there. I went to college down south and took a job not an hour and a half from where I grew up. That office was so nice because it actually had zone controlled HVAC. I only had a cubicle back then but it was so nice to be able to adjust our thermostat in our end of the office. The direct sunlight heating could really mess up an afternoon without being able to adjust the air conditioning. I worked in that building for almost ten years before I was offered a big promotion. That promotion came with the move to the northern regions of this country. And I mean north. The Winter here lasts basically six months. There is no zone controlled HVAC in this office. But I have an actual office with walls now so I brought in a space heater just to get by this winter. I keep that space heater right under my desk. However, it’s the new gas furnace in my home that has absolutely saved my bacon this Winter. As cold as it was for month after month after month, I was always warm inside my house thanks to the heating from the gas furnace.
