HVAC warranty is for reading

When it comes to warranties, I tend to treat them like I do directions. In other words, I either chuck the warranty and the directions or just completely ignore them. That’s most of the time. But when it comes to big stuff like cars, boats and HVAC equipment, I generally keep the warranty info on my computer or a hard copy in our important files. However, that doesn’t mean that I have read a word of those warranties. It’s just that I store them because I don’t want to be the guy who through away the warranty to the car. When it came to our central air conditioning, we inherited an 11 year old residential HVAC system. The HVAC company and the home inspector gave it the once over and said it was in great shape. The previous owner had all the paperwork from all of the seasonal HVAC maintenance as well. I bet he also had also read the HVAC warranty because he sure saved it in pristine condition. So that old heat pump went another decade before giving out. We replaced it with the latest in residential HVAC. We also got the whole suite of HVAC technology. And along with that came the HVAC warranty which I promptly ignored. Thankfully, I have a wife who is smarter than me and she actually read the warranty. She also registered the warranty with the HVAC factory or we’d have great HVAC equipment with no warranty because I didn’t get it registered in time. Since I didn’t read the warranty, I didn’t know that. I also didn’t know, until my wife informed me, that only an HVAC professional can work on the HVAC unit. Sounds like maybe I need to start reading manuals and warranties.
