My dad told me we were going on a fishing trip.
When mom didn’t actually come along, I was surprised, however I knew she was stressed getting ready for the new baby.
We got to the lodge, and there was no a/c. I told dad we needed to call the heating as well as A/C business; Dad told me a/c was not needed when fishing. The only reason there was a/c was to make mom comfortable, since she didn’t go out on the lake. When we got out on the lake, the sun shining on the water was hot. I asked dad if they had portable cooling systems for boats, and he just stared at me. I wondered how I had made it through the first fifteen years with dad. I never knew he had such an aversion to me or a/c. When we finally got back into the lodge, I asked if we could go home? He told me he wanted to do more fishing, however I wasn’t going. I looked dad in the eye and told him I didn’t want to fish. It was sizzling as blazes in the lodge and it was hotter on the water. He told me he didn’t want to go home. Mom hadn’t been pregnant for sixteen years, and he didn’t know how to deal with her now. He said he needed to be away from home for a few mornings. I was the chosen person to go with him, he hated the lodge without a/c, and there was nowhere else to go. I started to laugh and looked at him. I said, ‘so it isn’t me you actually dislike?’ and he started laughing with me. He said I was the only one he liked right now.
