Running my families business was consistently my dream. I never easily wanted to work for someone else and I consistently thought it would be an easy job to fall into. My dad and Grandfather consistently made it seem easy because they had good employees that made sure the business ran smoothly. Little did I know, they were just calm under pressure and it was a constant struggle to keep up with their competitors. After college, I started working with my dad at our Heating and Air Conditioning business and service business. I didn’t know anything about repairing the systems although I had graduated with a degree in business. I wanted to make a few swings to try and attract new shoppers. My dad told me that he wouldn’t allocate any more money from the budget for advertising because he felt it was a waste of money. He said the he and my Grandfather had consistently gotten along just fantastic with the small ad he localed in the local paper once a month. I tried to explain the advantages of advertising online and placing ads on social media sites. I told him that this week, people don’t even get the paper delivered like they used to and numerous people simply learn the news online. I decided to locale an add myself to show him how it worked. I paid a fee for a three month running ad that would apapple to prospective shoppers in our area. My dad was surprised when he got a call just one week later from someone needing service. When the customer said that they had seen the ad for a special my associate and I were running online, my dad had to admit that maybe he needed to do more. At least he now knows that it is money well spent.
