When my brother convinced us to transfer to area I had only one reservation, I do not like humidity! When my buddy and I would go there for visits my buddy and I regularly made sure to do so during cooler months and even then it was too damp outside for me.
I once read that the optimal humidity level for most people’s comfort is around 50%, the levels in his area hover around 90% year round.
Even when it is cooler outside I still feel the dampness in the air. At any rate, my buddy and I moved down to be closer to his and his family about six months ago. My superb friend and I purchased a great little cabin and I have come to prefer kneeling outside on cooler mornings. However, I want the inside of my cabin to be cool and dry all the time. The current a/c helps with this however I still feel that the moisture level could be lower, but my husband says that the only way to eliminate the damp feeling is update our Heating and Air Conditioning system and have a dehumidifier installed on the system. Thankfully my buddy and I have forced air and this will not be too costly of an addition. I cringe each time I feel of those people who use warm water heat and have only portable units to cool off the house. In my opinion they have to be miserable most of the time. Many folks in the area, who grew up here, don’t seem to even notice the muggy air. I can’t see myself ever being one of those types of people. Maybe my buddy and I should have resituated to the Southwest instead of the Southeast.
