Keeping Warm in Our Big Farmhouse

My husband, Cam, and I have been married for almost ten years now, and I couldn’t ask for a better life.

We purchased our home shortly after we were married.

We both had dreamed of living in a farmhouse since we were just children. We found the farmhouse of our dreams and bought it. It took us almost three years to completely remodel the kitchen and bathrooms as well as a couple bedrooms, but it was certainly worth all of the work. We truly love our home, and we hope to stay in it for the rest of our lives. One of the not so glorious parts about living in our old farmhouse is trying to keep it heated during the winter months. It is quite expensive since all the heating installed in the house is electric. Cam decided that it would be in our best interest to invest in some sort of supplemental heating. We ended up buying a large, propane fireplace. We put the fireplace in the living room, and it has been able to keep the first floor of the house much warmer, and it has saved us quite a bit of money on electricity. We also bought a small propane heater for the upstairs. Although it is smaller than the fireplace, I think, it produces almost the same amount of heat as the fireplace does. With both of these heaters running, both the first and second floors of our house are much more comfortable, and a huge bonus is how much money running those to heaters has saved us.
